When the Connecticut Sun open the 2025 season in May, fans will see a new face on the team’s sideline.

The Connecticut Sun announced Roneeka Hodges as the organization’s newest assistant coach Friday and she is eager to start her new position.

“I’m excited to begin this new journey with Coach Meziane and the Sun organization,” Hodges said in a press release. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the game and experiences as we continue to grow a winning culture. I’m grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to continued success.”

Hodges previously served as an assistant coach for the WNBA’s New York Liberty from 2022-2024. While in that role, she helped guide the Liberty to their first WNBA Championship in 2024 and back-to-back 30+ win regular seasons in 2023 and 2024.

Before joining the Liberty, Hodges coached collegiately as an assistant with Colgate University (2021-2022) and Old Dominion University (2020-2021). She also served as a special advisor to the Louisiana State University women’s basketball program during the 2019-2020 season.

Hodges also played in the WNBA from 2005-2015. During her career, she played for the Houston Comets, Minnesota Lynx, San Antonio Silver Stars, Indiana Fever, Tulsa Shock and Atlanta Dream. She played collegiately at Louisiana State (2000-2003) and Florida State (2004-2005), earning first team All-ACC honors in 2005.

“Having an experienced former player like Roneeka on staff will be a great asset to the Sun,” Rachid Meziane, head coach of the Connecticut Sun, said in a press release. “She brings passion for the game, a winning spirit and an understanding of what it takes to be a great coach. I’m looking forward to working alongside her in Connecticut and continuing to grow together.”
