RJ Lopez of the Coronado boys basketball team is the El Paso Children’s Hospital High School Athlete of the Week for Dec. 26-28.
Lopez was named the MVP of the Franklin Tournament, which Coronado won.

The El Paso Times will honor high school athletes this year every week that you, the readers, help determine. We will be taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the El Paso Children’s Hospital High School Athlete of the Week at 7 a.m. each Tuesday.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 3 p.m. each Thursday, and the winners will be announced Friday.

Here are this week’s nominees:

Jordan Sapien, Pebble Hills basketball. Sapien was named the MVP at the Byron Johnston Tournament in Midland, which Pebble Hills won. She scored 55 points, had 17 assists and 19 steals.

Danae Gonzalez, Burges basketball. She scored 63 points in the three games at the Eastlake Tournament where the team went 2-1.

Karina Ramos-Jurado, Eastlake basketball. Ramos scored 47 points in three games at the Eastlake showcase.

Jazlyn Hernandez, San Elizario basketball. The freshman was named to the All-Tournament team at the Monahans Tourney and scored 33 points in game vs, Odessa Permian.

RJ Lopez, Coronado basketball. He was named the MVP of the Franklin Tournament.

Savion Jordan, Chapin basketball. Jordan was named to the All-Tournament team at the Caprock Tournament in Lubbock, which the Huskies won with a 4-0 record. One of his best games was a 14-point, six rebound, four steal effort in win vs. Dallas Roosevelt.

Adrian Rodriguez, El Dorado basketball. He scored 31 points in win vs. Franklin, including making seven 3-pointers. He helped team to 2-1 record at Franklin Tounament.

Kaylan Medrano, Americas basketball. She helped team to 3-1 record at the Caprock Tourney in Lubbock. Against Cooper Liberty, She scored 20 points, she scored 18 points vs. Keller Central and she scored 13 points vs. Abernathy.
