Quinn Ewers firmly shut down any ideas of transferring to another school before the Cotton Bowl. In an interview with ESPN’s “College GameDay” Pete Thamel prior to the Longhorns’ appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinals, Ewers directly responded with a “no” when asked if he expects to play college football next season.
Earlier this month, reports suggested that Ewers was reportedly offered a substantial sum of nearly $6 million dollars to transfer to an unnamed school. However, Ewers addressed this notion saying “Haven’t even paid attention to it,” he said. “I’m not really sure what’s going on.”
Ewers, a third-year player, has showcased his talent by playing and starting in 35 games. Over the past three seasons, he has led Texas to an impressive 27 wins and two College Football Playoff appearances. He has maintained a remarkable record of 21-4 as a starter in the last two seasons.
Moreover, he stands as the sole quarterback to have guided his team to the playoffs in each of those years. Ewers’s performance has earned him the distinction of holding the highest record for starting quarterbacks over two seasons, surpassing Colt McCoy’s 25-2 record achieved in the 2008-09 season. Ewers also has the longest active streak of 26 consecutive games with a passing touchdown in the FBS.
Quinn Ewers is projected by USA TODAY to head in the third round of the NFL Draft. Latest projections have not been completed to account for the appearance in the College Football Playoff. It’s survive and advance for the Longhorns and its survive and thrive for Ewers with respect to his draft stock. There is no doubt in my mind, Ewers and the Longhorns win it all, he’s definitely a first round pick.
