Abdul Carter had one of the best seasons and careers in a Penn State football uniform, and now he’s taking his talents to the National Football League.

The Nittany Lion edge rusher announced Friday morning after the College Football Playoff semifinal against Notre Dame that he was entering the 2025 NFL Draft, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Carter, who is 6-foot-3 and 252 pounds, was an All-American and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Carter has logged 68 total tackles and 12 sacks this season at Penn State, both career-highs for the Philadelphia native. He is projected as a first-round pick in this spring’s NFL Draft after moving from linebacker to edge rusher this season.

Carter was also dealing with a shoulder injury in his final game for Penn State, where he recorded five total tackles and a sack against the Fighting Irish. Rosenhaus talked about Carter’s toughness leading into the game on the Pat McAfee Show.

“If this guy can play, physically, if there’s a chance, he will do it,” Rosenhaus said on McAfee Show. “I’ve been an NFL agent for 36 years. This is absolutely one of the toughest human beings I’ve ever been affiliated with. Just watch this guy play. He plays so hard every snap. If he can go, he’ll go. But he has a legitimate shoulder injury. Franklin came out and said, ‘Hey, it’s a game time decision.’ It really is.”

Should he choose to participate, the NFL Draft Combine is from Feb. 27-March 2. The 2025 NFL Draft is from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26.
