The Ottawa Senators are back home this week after a mediocre trip to California. The Senators won in San Jose (they didn’t deserve to) and lost games in Los Angeles and Anaheim, though they did pick up a point against the Ducks. The trip was like the rest of their season so far, generally meandering around the .500 mark.
The Sens again put the “NOOOO!” in November and left themselves behind the eight ball, as they always seem to, now five points and seven teams out of the final wild card.
The Senators’ next game is on Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings as The Pizza Line Reunites. That’s one of the stories you may missed over the past seven days:

Graeme Nichols had a chance for a great one on one interview with Sens captain Brady Tkachuk amid some dialogue that Tkachuk was letting emotions get the better of him, especially late in games. Tkachuk also spoke thoughtfully about his decision to sign long term here, eating up some of his UFA years.
It’s hard to believe that after leading two different teams to the conference finals, including Ottawa, that Guy Boucher can’t land an NHL job. But he did find work last week. Boucher was the last coach to lead the Sens in a playoff game… in 2017.

The new Senators do business a little differently than the past regime. With trade rumours beginning to swirl around the league, it’s pretty clear that the leaks to the media have been plugged and the Sens are keeping their cards close to the vest.

We had a former Ottawa Senator call it quits last week. He’ll most be remembered for his wild shootout attempt with the Senators. It was one that we haven’t seen before or since.

The Senators’ already thin blue line depth is facing a major test with the long term injury to Artem Zub. He’s probably out for a couple of months at least with a foot fracture.

And what would a week in review be without some trade speculation. There were some Josh Norris trade rumours out there last week. Graeme gets into the notion of a possible breakup of their young core.
