Oregon Ducks flip 4-star linebacker Gavin Nix from Miami Hurricanes

by

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks picked up a player who was high on their recruiting board right before the early signing period begins on Wednesday. They took him from a coach who Oregon fans have pretty strong feelings about, as well.

The Ducks landed 4-star linebacker Gavin Nix on Tuesday morning, flipping him from Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes. Nix, who plays at IMG Academy, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 231 player in the 2025 class, and the No. 24 linebacker.

Nix has been high on Oregon’s recruiting board throughout this cycle, and while he committed to the Hurricanes back in July of this year, the Ducks stayed on him and continued to press in his recruitment.

Now, on the eve of the early signing period, Nix decided to officially flip his commitment and head across the country to Eugene.

This is a big commitment for the Ducks because it comes at a position that was looking relatively light in this cycle. Oregon had one linebacker commit in the class — 4-star Nasir Wyatt — but the Mater Dei star is more of an outside linebacker or EDGE player, while Nix is a conventional inside backer.

Wednesday should be an eventful one in Eugene, as the Ducks look to sign another top-five-ranked class and hopefully pick up a few other flips along the way.
