JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — After an upset loss against the Florida Gators sank Ole Miss football’s College Football Playoff chances, the Rebels are returning to the Sunshine State for a chance to finish their season on a high note.
The No. 15 Rebels (9-3) face Duke (9-3) in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Thursday (7 p.m. CT, ESPN). The game will be played at EverBank Stadium.
Most Rebels players, including quarterback Jaxson Dart, have opted to play in the game. Coach Lane Kiffin has also managed to keep his roster mostly intact through transfer portal season.
The Blue Devils have a more depleted roster. Duke quarterback Maalik Murphy transferred to Oregon State after the regular season and will not play in the bowl game. He threw a Duke-record 26 touchdown passes this season. Sophomore Henry Belin, Murphy’s replacement, will go up against an Ole Miss defense leading the FBS in sacks (52) and TFL’s (116).
The Rebels have a chance to have back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 1959-60.
