The No. 10-ranked Oklahoma women’s basketball team broke even last week in a challenging start to SEC play.
OU (13-2, 1-1 SEC) suffered an 80-73 home loss to No. 6 Texas on Thursday. It then earned an 87-86 road win over No. 13 Tennessee on Sunday.

Jan. 2: Texas 80, Oklahoma 73
In what marked a battle between two rivals in a new conference, OU fell short against Texas at home on Thursday. Peyton Verhulst led the Sooners with a game-high 23 points, although she went 7 for 23 from the field (1 for 11 from deep). OU also committed 27 turnovers, which Texas converted in 28 points.
Jan. 5: Oklahoma 87, Tennessee 86
OU bounced back on the road Sunday against Tennessee, which was undefeated entering the game. The Sooners led by as many as 19 points, and they fended off a late comeback attempt by the Lady Volunteers to earn their first SEC victory. Verhulst scored a team-high 16 points, while Reyna Scott and Liz Scott scored 11 points apiece off the bench.
