Ohio State close to setting new mark, offensive record could fall in CFP vs Notre Dame

by

Ohio State football is 126 yards from history.

Buckeyes receiver Emeka Egbuka enters Monday’s national championship game against Notre Dame just 53 receiving yards shy of 1,000. Running backs Quinshon Judkins (40 yards) and TreVeyon Henderson (33) are within spitting distance of 1,000 rushing yards. And Jeremiah Smith already has caught 71 passes for 1,227 yards.

According to the school, Ohio State has never had four 1,000-yard performers.

Part of the reason OSU is nearing this feat is that the Buckeyes are about to play their 16th game of the season. However, OSU has also slowed down its tempo this year and is ranked 123rd nationally in snaps per game at 62.7.

Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has said this was done to keep the team fresh for the longer postseason.

The Buckeyes kick off against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
