MADISON – The ripple effects of Wisconsin’s change in offensive coordinator continued Tuesday.
Jarin Mock, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback from Pickerington North High School just outside of Columbus, Ohio, announced on X that his recruitment was opening following a conversation with the Badgers coaching staff.
“After a brief conversation with Wisconsin they are no longer honoring my commitment,” Mock wrote. “With that being said, my recruitment is 100% open.”
Mock, a member of the 2027 class, committed to the Badgers in June when Phil Longo was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Longo was relieved of his duties from both positions in November and the Badgers hired Jeff Grimes as the offensive coordinator and Kenny Guiton as the quarterbacks coach. Grimes is expected to install a more run-oriented offense than Longo employed.
The shift in philosophy is a major reason the Badgers’ top three quarterbacks from this past season will play elsewhere in 2025. Tyler Van Dyke, who is recovering from an ACL injury, is headed to SMU. Braedyn Locke and Mabrey Mettauer landed at Arizona and Sam Houston, respectively.
The change also led to loss of Landyn Locke, who signed early but was released from his letter of intent last month. He recently committed to Sam Houston where Longo was hired as head coach.
College coaches aren’t allowed to comment on recruits until they’ve signed but based on Mock’s account it sounds like the Badgers no longer saw him as a good fit.
A three-star recruit according to 247sports, Rivals and On3, Mock completed 155 of 252 passes (61.5%) for 2,603 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior.
Since most programs sign one quarterback per class, Grimes and Guiton will be able to recruit a quarterback for the offense this offseason without the possible deterrent of having another player from the class committed at that position.
Without Mock in the class Wisconsin has one recruit committed for 2026: Ben Novak, a 6-6, 325-pound offensive lineman from Andrean High School in Merrillville, Indiana.
