The North Carolina Tar Heels are wrapping up their tough non-conference schedule with a home game against Campbell on Sunday. From there, the Tar Heels will get into the meat of their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule.
So far, UNC has struggled as they had one of the toughest non-conference schedules. They just got their first win over an AP Top 25 ranked team when they rallied to beat UCLA on Saturday. And with their struggles, they are trending in the wrong direction in Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology.
The ESPN reporter released his newest Bracketology on Christmas Eve and he has UNC as a No. 10 seed in the East Region. That region includes No. 1 Iowa State and No. 2 Alabama.
UNC is matched up against No. 7 Maryland out of the Big Ten, a tough test for the Tar Heels in the first round. If they were to win that game, they would face off against the Crimson Tide, a program that has had its number including beating UNC in the Sweet 16 last year and then in the regular season this year.
There’s a long way to go before selection Sunday and things will change, but it is clear that UNC needs to have a good record in conference play and avoid bad losses for their tournament resume.
