NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Hardin-Simmons women’s basketball team went down 73-55 to the No. 1 ranked New York University Violets on Friday night to end its season in the NCAA Sweet 16.
The Cowgirls advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with a win over Trinity in the second round that HSU hosted in Abilene. They drew the top team in the nation in the next round at NYU.
Hardin-Simmons shot 37% and was held to eight 3-point attempts by the staunch Violet defense. NYU shot 53% from the field and led with 36 rebounds to 25 for HSU.
The Cowgirls were led on offense with three seniors in double-figures. Paris Kiser scored 13 points, and Samantha Tatum and Parris Parmer each scored 10 points.
Head coach Kendra Whitehead ends the year steering the Cowgirls to a record of 26-4 as the 2024 ASC Champions, finishing in the NCAA Sweet 16 round against the No. 1 overall team in the nation.
