Over 24 seasons as coach of the Patriots, Bill Belichick brought a lot of talent to New England. Now, in his new job, he’s trying to bring some New England talent down to North Carolina.

Belichick stunned the sports world in December when he took over the University of North Carolina football program. While out on the recruiting trail, the new Tar Heels coach has made sure to drop into his old neighborhood, scouting out Massachusetts talent.

Tabor Academy rising junior quarterback Peter Bourque, who lives in Hingham, announced Tuesday night on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he has received an offer from UNC. This comes a week after Belichick, 72, offered St. Sebastian’s offensive tackle Marky Walbridge, of Hanover.

Bourque (6-4, 190 pounds) spent three seasons at Catholic Memorial — including one as an eighth-grade backup — before transferring to Tabor for the 2024 season and reclassifying as a sophomore. He’s a four-star recruit and is ranked by Rivals as a top-100 prospect from the Class of 2027. He holds offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State and Syracuse, among others.

In August, Bourque raved about the interest Penn State was showing in him, telling Happy Valley Insider, “The Penn State offer means the world to me. This is one of the most storied programs in college football.”

Not surprisingly, Belichick has been targeting QBs on the recruiting trail. On Monday he was in Tennessee for an in-home visit with Nashville Christian School five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. The 6-4, 225-pound junior is one of the nation’s most sought-after QBs with offers from Georgia, Oregon, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn and Ohio State, among others.

Belichick was hired by the Tar Heels on Dec. 11. It’s his first college coaching job after spending 29 seasons as a head coach in the NFL, the last 24 of them with the Patriots, whom he led to six Super Bowl victories.
