Michigan football landed a pair of reinforcements via the transfer portal from the SEC.
Former Arkansas twin defensive backs Tevis and TJ Metcalf have committed to Michigan, the brothers confirmed on social media Monday evening. TJ quoted On3’s Hayes Fawcett’s post saying “KEEP FAITH,” while TJ said “#goblue.”
Sophomores out of Birmingham, Alabama, TJ had 56 tackles (29 solo) to go with seven passes defended, three picks and a forced fumble. TJ played in all 12 games as a freshman, played 730 snaps as a sophomore and allowed 300 yards and two touchdowns on 23 receptions on 35 targets in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus.
Still, the former four-star recruit likely has higher upside than those numbers showed. He displayed his versatility all over the field, lining up in the box (335 times), at free safety (296 snaps) and in the slot (94 snaps).
Tevis, meanwhile, played just 15 snaps on defense in 2024. He allowed two receptions for 38 yards the two times he was targeted as the primary defender. TJ has two years of eligibility remaining and Tevis has three.
Wolverines add FCS freshman All-American to O-line
The Wolverines also added reinforcements to the offensive line, grabbing Brady Norton out of Cal Poly, according to reports.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder was the top-ranked FCS pass blocking offensive tackle in 2024 as he did not allow a sack and just three hurries on 444 pass blocking snaps, according to PFF, as he allowed just one hurry in the final nine games of the season.
The former three-star product out of Mission Viejo, California, was named an FCS Central Freshman All-American, the only lineman in the Big Sky on the team. It is likely this is not the only addition U-M will make to offensive line coach Grant Newsome’s room.
U-M has lost its two top offensive linemen in Myles Hinton and Josh Priebe, who are eligibility, and has another four offensive linemen − Dominick Giudice, Raheem Anderson, Andrew Gentry and Tristan Bounds − who entered the portal.
For what it’s worth, head coach Sherrone Moore seemed to approve of all the activity.
