The Mets are signing left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell on a minor-league deal, according to a report Monday by FanSided’s Robert Murray.
The 30-year-old Waddell last pitched in MLB during the 2021 season as a reliever with the Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals. He opened the 2022 season with the Cardinals’ Triple-A Memphis Redbirds before getting released that July.
His subsequent three years saw him play in the KBO and CPBL as a starter. Waddell played for the KBO’s Doosan Bears throughout the 2022 and 2023-24 seasons, with a stint on the CPBL’s Rakuten Monkeys sandwiched between in the first half of the 2023 campaign.
In 2024, Waddell went 7-4 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 over 75 IP for the Bears.
Waddell made his MLB debut Aug 14, 2020, with the Pirates. Pittsburgh selected him from Virginia with the No. 157 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
