Louisville women’s basketball will have several questions answered when the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed Sunday night on ESPN.
The Cardinals had a string of hosting eight straight tournaments but missed out on a ninth tournament last year when they were a No. 5 seed. They were on track to host this season, but too many losses in February and losing in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals prevented those chances.
Although starting the tournament at home is more convenient, traveling early hasn’t hindered the Cardinals’ postseason success. After starting the 2023 tournament in Austin, Texas, they still made the Elite Eight for the fifth straight tournament. But can they do it again?
Here’s a look back at Louisville’s 2023-24 schedule and bracket projections:
Louisville women’s basketball NCAA Tournament resume
The Cardinals (24-9) head into the tournament ranked 25th in the USA TODAY coaches poll. Despite going 5-5 in the last 10 games of the regular season, they compiled five top-25 wins — with three wins over teams in the top-25 NET rankings: Notre Dame (seventh), Gonzaga (12th) and Duke (20th). Other NET top-50 wins include Ole Miss (36th), Washington (42nd), Syracuse (43rd) and Florida State (44th).
Who will Louisville basketball face if it earns a 6-seed?
An ACC Tournament quarterfinals loss to Notre Dame didn’t change the Cardinals’ projected seed.
The consensus is U of L will be a No. 6 seed and will face a No. 11 seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s bracketology has Auburn being the Cardinals’ opponent. The Athletic lists Middle Tennessee, and Her Hoops Stats has the Vanderbilt-Arizona winner taking on the Cardinals.
Where will Louisville women’s basketball play in first round of 2024 NCAA Tournament?
The Athletic has Louisville going to Corvallis, Oregon, for the first weekend of the tournament with third-seeded Oregon State serving as the host. The Athletic and Her Hoops Stats projected Louisville to be on the other side of the country in Storrs, Connecticut, with UConn hosting with the No. 3 seed.
Other possible host cities include:
-
Columbia, South Carolina;
-
Iowa City, Iowa;
-
Blacksburg, Virginia;
-
Boulder, Colorado;
-
South Bend, Indiana;
-
Columbus, Ohio;

Los Angeles;
-

-

-

What’s Louisville basketball’s possible path to Final Four?
After the first weekend, Louisville will be in the Albany 1 region, per ESPN, while the Cardinals are in the Portland 4 region, according to The Athletic, and Albany 3 (Her Hoops Stats). The Final Four is scheduled April 5 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
