As the Texas Longhorns move closer to a national title, they have been busy in the transfer portal. On Saturday, they added more talent to their QB room for the 2025 season in CJ Rogers. After spending the last few months with the Houston Christian Huskies, Rogers has a new home.

During the 2024 campaign, Rogers appeared in seven games, throwing for 212 yards and two interceptions. While his playing time was limited, he took snaps against the SMU Mustangs and the UTSA Roadrunners. For Rogers, he will now focus on learning as much as he can while in Austin.

“Playing at the University of Texas is a dream come true,” Rogers told Inside Texas. “I’m very excited to be able to learn from Coach (Steve) Sarkisian and Coach (AJ) Milwee and help the program.”

Next season, the Longhorns’ quarterback room could look very different. They may lose Quinn Ewers to the transfer portal or the NFL Draft, and former walk-on Cole Lourd is not a lock to return. However, Texas should still be in good hands with Arch Manning on the roster, who has shined when given the opportunity to play.

During his high school career, Rogers helped Argyle to a UIL 4A state championship appearance. In 2020, he redshirted for Baylor, where he got a little playing time in the Bears’ Big 12 Championship title. He then transferred to Texas State for two seasons.

In Rogers, the Longhorns are adding a veteran signal-caller who played at Baylor and Texas State. The Longhorns have been one of the most active teams in the portal, adding former Purdue defensive tackle Cole Brevard, Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence, and Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester.
