Dec. 7—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire on their way to a 72-66 win over Montana Technological University on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Orediggers’ The HPER Complex.
The Jimmies hit their first shot of the game and started the game shooting 78% from the field over the first six minutes of the first quarter to get out to a 19-11 lead. The Jimmies were able to pull away through the remainder of the opening quarter taking a 26-18 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was all about the Orediggers as they trimmed the deficit to 31-30 with just over a minute to go and hit a layup with less than a second to go in the half to cut their deficit to 36-34.
In the first half, the Jimmies shot 38.2% from the field while the Orediggers shot 41.2%.
The Jimmies had a huge third quarter stretching their lead out to 51-37 and finishing the frame on a 9-5 run to take a 53-46 lead into the fourth quarter.
After the Orediggers once again brought the Jimmies’ lead down to 53-51, the Jimmies’ Kate Cordes hit a three to push the lead out to 56-51 with 7:07 to go in the fourth quarter. Over the last seven minutes of the frame, the Jimmies outscored the Orediggers 19-15 to get the win.
Cordes finished the game with a game-high 27 points on 9-for-16 shooting.
The Jimmies are back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, when they host Dickinson State.
