Jets superfan sends Mike Williams a treat ahead of team visit

by

Die-hard fans of the New York Jets are finding different ways to campaign for their team during free agency.

The Los Angeles Chargers released wide receiver Mike Williams on March 13, allowing the team to save $20 million. Williams visited the Jets’ facility Tuesday as part of his free agency tour.

When he arrived at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, Williams had a special, tasty treat waiting for him. A Jets superfan who goes by @NYJ_Matt on X had a Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwich — a North Jersey staple — from Morristown Diner in Morristown, New Jersey, delivered to the Florham Park facility.

The delivery instructions were very specific for the order.

It seems to have worked.

The Jets and Williams agreed to terms Tuesday. The one-year contract has a maximum value of $15 million, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Williams, 29, snagged 19 receptions and amassed 249 receiving yards in three games for the Chargers during the 2023 season, averaging 13.1 yards per reception. His last fully healthy season was 2021, when he finished with 76 receptions, 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns.
