The Texas Tech women’s basketball team continued its winning ways, getting 19 points from Jasmine Shavers — who led a quartet of double-digit scorers — en route to securing its second straight win Saturday with a 71-65 triumph over TCU in a Big 12 contest inside United Supermarkets Arena.
The win means the Lady Raiders (16-6, 5-4) secured consecutive conference victories. The Horned Frogs (15-5, 2-6) split their last two contests after forfeiting a pair of games for lack of available players earlier in the season.
Jordyn Merritt ended with 16 points, while Loghan Johnson and Bailey Maupin chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively. Johnson earned her first start of the season.
To start off the game, TTU dug itself into a large hold — akin to similar situations earlier in the season — to the tune of a 18-5 deficit with 2:38 left in the first quarter. Merritt netted a bucket to snap the Horned Frogs roll as the Lady Raiders trailed 18-7 after one complete.
Texas Tech engineered a 19-3 run to take a 28-24 lead with 2:13 left before halftime. The change of fortune was due to the Lady Raiders getting after it on the defensive end and working on better shot selection on the offensive end en route to outscoring TCU 25-8 in the period.
It resulted in Texas Tech holding a 32-26 lead at the break.
The Lady Raiders built their advantage to double digits, before TCU made a furious rally in the form of a 10-0 run and tied the game at 62-62 with 6:53 left in the third quarter, en route to cementing their 13th home victory.

Earning her spot

She finished with 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting to go with three rebounds.
Iron woman
Bailey Maupin has played in and started all 22 games this season for the Lady Raiders. Heading into Saturday’s contest, the former Gruver standout led Texas Tech in scoring at a 14.4 mark. She ended the game with 12 points and six rebounds.

After securing a win earlier in the week against Houston, splitting the season series with the Cougars, the Lady Raiders are in the midst of a strong start to their Big 12 slate.
