Pomona-Pitzer won in dominant fashion. Sabrina Wang, Alex Turvey, Francesca Coppo and Valerie Mello comprised the quartet. Turvey went 22.50 on the second leg, which was impressive until Mello brought them home in 22.45. They were more than a second clear of the field. They had been quickest in prelims and tied for fourth last year. Turvey and Mello had the two fastest splits of the A final.
Denison finished second in 1:32.60, with Swarthmore jumping up to third in 1:32.99. Williams was fourth and Emory, the reigning champ, was fifth. Kaley McIntyre had the fastest leadoff leg in 22.81, but NYU faded to seventh.

Men’s 400 individual medley
Benjamin Thorsen is the new 400 IM champ, and it was a classic.
Thorsen went 3:51.48 to win the race, holding off a late charge from runner-up Ryan Higgins of TCNJ. The Emory junior got his hand to the wall .04 seconds ahead of Higgins. Higgins had led by 15 at 300 yards, but a 27.40 from Thorsen on his seventh 50 took nearly eight tenths out of Higgins, and he clawed back .59 of that in the final 50.
Kenyon’s Ethan Manske was third in 3:52.04, nearly finding his way into the leading pack. He finished fifth last year. Coast Guard Academy’s Sean Lyman was fourth in 3:53.34, up from 24th last year. Washington University’s Daniel Sibley, last year’s silver medalist, dropped to eighth.
Brother Harrison Thorsen won the B final in 3:53.85.

Men’s 100 butterfly
There’s good news and bad news for the University of Chicago. The good news is that Jesse Ssengonzi reclaimed his 100 fly title with an NCAA record of 46.28. The bad news is that the second seed from prelims, Cooper Costello, was disqualified for a false start.
Ssengonzi got the job done, though, finally taking down the NCAA record of 46.46 set by David Fitch in 2021. Ssengonzi needed all of it to hold off Julien Camy, the Calvin fifth-year who won silver in 46.44. Frank Applebaum of CMS was third, and Garrett Clasen got Chicago another top finish in fourth in 47.24.
