Iowa slips outside AP Top 25 women’s college basketball poll

by

Following their first three-game losing streak since 2018, Iowa women’s basketball (12-5, 2-4 Big Ten) was unsurprisingly left out of the newest AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll.

While the Hawkeyes held a razor-thin margin of error at the No. 23 spot, the 62-57 road loss to Illinois coupled with a 74-67 home loss to Indiana firmly knocked Iowa out of the top 25.

The Hawkeyes are among 12 programs receiving votes.

Iowa will have two quality opportunities to boost its position in the polls this coming week as they host Nebraska on Thursday and travel to Oregon on Sunday.

As for how the rest of the Big Ten faired in this week’s release, UCLA remains atop the rankings for a seventh consecutive week as the nation’s No. 1 program. Following the Bruins are No. 4 USC, No. 8 Maryland, No. 9 Ohio State, No. 22 Michigan State, and No. 24 Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers’ inclusion in this week’s Top 25 marks the first time they have been ranked since 2019.

Alongside Iowa in the group of Big Ten programs still receiving votes are Michigan (43 points), Indiana (14 points), and Nebraska (11 points).
