Winning season after winning season wasn’t enough to keep the Indian River State College women’s basketball afloat. Suddenly, a program with decades of history is no more.
The team was informed by IRSC athletic director Scott Kimmelman on Monday that the program would be cut due to financial losses. The school’s eSports program also suffered the same fate after just two seasons of existence. Additionally, the volleyball program remains in operation, but will be dropped a division.
Jamarra Robinson, who graduated from and later became the head coach at St. Lucie West Centennial High School, guided the Lady Pioneers basketball team to successful results.
Following a 2-27 record during Robinson’s first season, IRSC has gone 99-44 in the five seasons since. The team 19-12 this past season.
Breaking a 12-year drought, the Lady Pioneers won the Southern Conference championship in 2023 and were conference runner-up in 2021, 2022 and 2024. IRSC advanced to the Region 8 State Final Four, earning state runner-up honors in 2022.
