The Nebraska men’s basketball team opened the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against Murray State on Sunday. Though the Huskers once again scored less than 70 points for the third time this season, the defense allowed the fewest points scored in a game this season to get the win, 66-49.
Nebraska held the Racers to 17-of-55 from the floor, 7-of-27 from beyond the arc and 8-of-15 from the free throw line. The Huskers dominated in the first half defensively, entering halftime up 34-14. Though Murray State outscored Nebraska in the second half 35-32, the Huskers remained consistent on offense.
Connor Essegian shined from beyond the arc for Nebraska, going 5-of-10 to tally up a team-high 15 points. Andrew Morgan delivered a double-double in the game, scoring 12 points and hauling in a team-high 12 rebounds.
Rollie Worster rounded out Nebraska’s double-digit scorers, going 4-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points. He also snatched seven rebounds.
The Huskers improved to 8-2 on the season and will play Hawai’i for the tournament semi-final on Monday night. Tipoff is at 9:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
