CASSANDRA NEGLEY: This is Cassandra Negley with Yahoo Sports. It’s time to see who is charging the game, brought to you by Acura, and spotlight a player who’s energizing their team and putting up historical performances heading into this year’s tournament. So let’s look at Caitlin Clark.

Clark has taken the world by storm with her ability to hit from the logo and her amazing passes to teammates. She’s averaging about 32 points per game this season. That’s about a third of Iowa’s total. They’re averaging around 90. It’s her assist though, that have done a huge deal, charging Iowa possibly into the Final Four. She’s averaging about 8 per game. That’s a career high. And that’s 16 points for Iowa, putting her contributions to about half of their total.

Of course, Caitlin Clark is all over history this year. She passed Kelsey Plum, she passed Lynette Woodard, she passed Pete Maravich for those all-time scoring records. She’s also top five in career assists. And she could bring Iowa its first national championship in program history after she brought them to the Final Four for the first time last year. She’s surrounded by two incredible seniors helping her out, Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin, Hannah Stuelke, the sophomore. She makes everyone around her better, energizing them for this tournament run that will start in Iowa City.
