Jan. 6—The Lady Cougars had a slow start against visiting Henryville and despite outscoring the Hornets 25-13 in the second half, South fell to Henryville 35-33.
South drops to 8-9 on the season. Henryville improves to 9-6.
Henryville jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first eight minutes of action. Makayla Somers had the lone bucket for the Lady Cougars. In the second quarter, the Hornets doubled up the Lady Cougars 12-6 to lead 22-8 at the break. Makayla Somers scored four points in the quarter for South and Raegan Benge hit a pair of free throws for two points.
After the break, South outscored Henryville 14-5 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 27-22 heading to the fourth quarter. Paige McQueen led the Lady Cougars in the quarter with six points. In the fourth, Henryville hit only 2-of-8 in the fourth quarter to keep South in the game. South outscored the Hornets 11-8 but fell by two points.
Makayla Somers led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 12 points. McQueen scored eight points. Taylor Somers added six points. Raegan Benge had five points and Dalilah Martin scored two points.
Taylor Somers grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Makayla Somers had seven rebounds. Makayla Pucket dished out a team-high four assists.
Batesville 58 Switzerland County 37
The Batesville girls’ varsity basketball team improved to 11-6 on the season with a 58-37 win over Switzerland County.
The Lady Pacers got out to a good start and led the Lady Bulldogs 15-14 at the first break. Batesville regrouped and outscored Switzerland County 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 31-20 lead into halftime.
Batesville had four players score in double figures. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Alyson Peters with 17 points followed by Marlee Obermeyer with 16, Madelyn Haskamp 11 and Sophie Gesell 10. Haskamp led the team in rebounds with 14, while Nora Wiedeman had a team-high three assists.
The JV Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-1 on the season with a 39-27 win over Switzerland County. Batesville led by Grace Walter with 10 points and Maggie Jelinek added seven points.
Jennings County 49 Rushville 36
The Lady Lions opened the new year by hosting Jennings County Saturday. The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 17-5 lead after one quarter and clawed their way to a 49-36 victory.
Jennings County improves to 9-6. Rushville drops to 7-10.
In the second quarter, Jennings County added three points to the lead and went to the halftime break leading 31-16. Rushville outscored Jennings County 20-18 in the second half.
Gracie Buzzard led the Lady Lions with 14 points. Kelsey Morgan and Audrey Angle both scored six points. Carly Senour scored five points. Makenna Ripberger scored four points. Trisha Morgan hit a free throw for one point.
