Nov. 29—The top ranked Lady Pirates traveled to East Central Wednesday to open EIAC play in the 2024-25 season. Greensburg jumped out to a 15-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back, winning 67-35.
Greensburg improves to 6-0 (1-0 EIAC). East Central drops to 4-2 (2-1 EIAC).
The Lady Pirates scored the first five points of the game. After East Central cut the deficit to 8-4, Greensburg scored the next 11 points to close the first eight minutes leading 19-4. A 12-2 Greensburg run opened the second quarter as the Lady Pirates took a 35-14 lead at the half.
After the break, Greensburg added to the lead, outscoring the Lady Trojans 17-7 in the third quarter to lead 52-21 heading to the fourth quarter. Greensburg sealed the win with 15 points in the final eight minutes
Leah West led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 23 points. Mylie Wilkison was also in double figures with 17 points. Aly Powers and Claire Larrison both scored nine points. Emma Kuntz finished with six points and Emma McQueen added six points.
The Lady Pirates host Seymour (2-2) Saturday. The junior varsity game tips at 11 a.m.
North Decatur 68 Switzerland County 18The Lady Chargers posted their third win in as many outings with a 63-18 win over visiting Switzerland County Wednesday. North improves to 3-1 on the season. The Lady Pacers drop to 1-4.
North led 14-6 after the first quarter, but took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Pacers 26-8 to lead 40-14 at the half. There was no comeback for the visiting squad. North allowed just two points in each of the third and fourth quarters en route to a 63-18 win.
North had two players score in double figures with Madi Allen scoring 26 and Clare Kinker adding 10. Kelsey Haley was next for the Lady Chargers with nine points followed by Ally Whitaker four, Jo Whitaker four, Jewel Verseman three, Emma Schoettmer two, Carmen Thackery two, Sara Moeller two and Brooke Mauer one.
North travels to Knightstown (3-3) for an 11 a.m. varsity only contest.
South Decatur 37 Milan 34The Lady Cougars got back in the win column with a 37-34 victory at Milan. South improves to 4-3. The Lady Indians remain winless at 0-5.
Success and struggles at the free throw line kept the game close down the stretch. The Lady Indians finished the game 10-of-16 from the charity stripe. South, a team that shoots 60 percent from the charity stripe on the season, was just 5-of-21 on this day.
Despite not having their best shooting day, the Lady Cougars continued to battle in other areas and made the plays need to get the win. South forced 17 Milan turnovers, dished out 12 assists, had 10 steals and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds.
For South, Makayla Somers tallied 11 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and three steals. Paige McQueen added seven points, one rebound, two assists, one steal and one block. Raegan Benge had six points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Makayla Puckett finished with six points, four rebounds, a team-high five assists and three steals. Dalilah Martin added four points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals. Taylor Somers had three points three rebounds and two assists. Riley Benge grabbed one rebound.
Batesville 46 Seymour 38After trailing visiting Seymour by one point heading to the second quarter, Batesville outscored the Lady Owls 25-17 in the middle two quarters en route to a 46-38 victory. Batesville improves to 4-2 on the season. Seymour drops to 2-2.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Kaylin Kathmann tallied 13 points, two steals and one rebound. Sophie Gesell finished with 12 points, one steal and one rebound. Sydney Campbell was the third Lady Bulldog in double figures in scoring, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. Marlee Obermeyer scored four points. Lydia Haskamp had three points and five rebounds. Nora Wiedeman added two points, one steal and one assist. Maddie Haskamp finished with one point, two rebounds and two steals.
