Gerrit Cole has nerve inflammation in his elbow and will not throw for three or four weeks, he said before Saturday’s Yankees spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The ace right-hander, who is confirmed to not have a UCL tear, told reporters at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla., that he “felt good” after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache for a second opinion and is not scheduled to get any PRP injections.
“I think we determined that we just got a little too hot a little too quick this spring,” Cole said, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
Cole added that it is too soon to determine when he could make his MLB return, but he will keep his arm live through pylos and arm movements.
“I mean, it’s not a common experience for me,” Cole said, via The Post’s Greg Joyce. “I haven’t really dealt with anything like this before. Anytime you’re going through something for the first time, there’s a little bit of uncertainty. But I had a lot of faith.”
The 33-year-old Cole allowed three runs on four hits (one homer) in two innings of his only outing this spring, a March 1 start against the Blue Jays. He fanned one while throwing 26 strikes on 39 pitches.
