Former Auburn highly-touted defensive lineman Darron Reed is headed to Mississippi State. A sophomore with three seasons of eligibility remaining, the four-star prospect saw action in just three games during his two seasons at Auburn.
While he is yet to register a true statistic in his college career, the Carver, Georgia native is still widely considered a coveted prospect after finishing as a top 100 recruit in the 2022 cycle. Reed finished his senior season at Carver High School with a team-high 8 sacks to go along with 33 tackles.
Now headed to Mississippi State, Reed will look to make the type of immediate impact he has been unable to produce on the Plains. Considering the Tigers defensive line is one of the better units across the roster, it makes a ton of sense why the former four-star prospect thinks he has a better chance at playing time elsewhere.
Reed’s departure further paves a direct path to significant snaps for young Tigers such as Malik Autry, Antonio Coleman, and Jared Smith. Along with incumbent star defensive end Keldric Faulk, the trio of freshman should help an already improving young Auburn defense become one of the better units in the conference. As for Reed, the former Tiger will have plenty of opportunity to step up with the 2-10 Bulldogs.
