The Arizona State Sun Devils closed the 2024 college football season as a Top 10 team in most end-of-season rankings and polls.
Where will they be ranked to open the 2025 season?
Many sites have released their way-too-early college football 2025 rankings, which offer a sneak peek at how the polls could turn out at the beginning of next season and where Kenny Dillingham’s team, which went 11-3 in the 2024 season, could be ranked.
Will the Sun Devils be a Top 10 team to start 2025? We’re not sure. But there is one thing for certain. ASU football won’t be ranked last in the Big 12 to start the season after being picked to finish that way at the beginning of the 2024 season and going on to win the conference and earning a berth in the 12-team College Football Playoff.

USA TODAY Sports: ASU football ranked No. 10 in early Top 25 for 2025
Paul Myerberg and Erick Smith write: “Only a questionable targeting no-call and fourth-and-13 conversion kept the Sun Devils from the playoff semifinals. It was simply a remarkable campaign that has Kenny Dillingham looking to build on the surprising success that included a Big 12 title. While RB Cam Skattebo departs, QB Sam Levitt is ready to assume more control on the offense. Getting back WR Jordyn Tyson to full health will be critical after a knee injury ended his season prematurely. The defense has all-conference picks Xavion Alford and C.J. Fife to anchor the unit.”
FOX Sports: Sun Devils at No. 10 in way-too-early Top 25
RJ Young writes: “The Sun Devils get back their Big 12 Coach of the Year in Kenny Dillingham and Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in Sam Leavitt following a Big 12 Championship and bid to the CFP.”

ESPN: Arizona State at No. 14 in Top 25 ranking for 2025
Mark Schlabach writes: “There’s no question the Sun Devils are going to face an uphill climb in replacing Skattebo’s production on offense. Not only did the All-America running back pile up 1,711 yards with 21 touchdowns on the ground, but he had 605 receiving yards and even threw for a score. Kanye Udoh, who ran for 1,117 yards with 10 touchdowns at Army last season, should be first in line to replace Skattebo. ASU brings back some key players in Leavitt and Tyson, who were outstanding in their first seasons in the desert. Cornerbacks Nyland Green (Purdue) and Adrian Wilson (Washington State) might help shore up a secondary that ranked 81st against the pass (226.7 yards) in 2024.”
Yahoo Sports: Kenny Dillingham’s team ranked No. 14 in early 2025 ranking
Nick Bromberg writes: “Cam Skattebo is gone but there’s a lot to like from Kenny Dillingham’s second season at ASU. QB Sam Leavitt is back, and so is leading WR Jordyn Tyson. He missed the CFP because of injury. Skattebo’s replacement should be Army RB Kanye Udoh (talk about a change of college environments), who rushed for 1,101 yards in 2024. The defense will bring back a bunch of key contributors, too.”
Arizona State football: No more sneaking up on opponents as Sam Leavitt leads the way
CBS Sports: Sun Devils open early 2025 ranking at No. 16
Dennis Dodd writes: “Big 12 Coach of the Year Kenny Dillingham is the toast of the league after taking the Sun Devils from worst (picked last before the season) to first. Quarterback Sam Leavitt gets his favorite target back from injury — Jordan Tyson (1,100 receiving yards). Army transfer running back Kanye Udoh (1,641 career years) will try to replace Cam Skattebo.”
