by

Yaroslav Askarov made 29 saves in his San Jose Sharks debut but lost to the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday.

Nathan Walker and Jordan Kyrou scored goals for St. Louis. Jordan Binnington made 22 saves and wasn’t tested heavily.

Alexander Wennberg scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, assisted by Mikael Granlund, extending his point streak to four games. Macklin Celebrini also had two assists.

Will Smith didn’t play as part of his development plan, and Henry Thrun was a healthy scratch. Vitek Vanecek did not dress for the Sharks, and head coach Ryan Warsofsky said he is day-to-day.

Askarov turned a puck over and tried to wrap it up the boards, and Walker scored with an open goal 11 seconds into the game.

Wennberg ties the game 1-1 with a powerplay goal in front of the net. Granlund extended his point streak to four games with the primary assist.

Kyrou somehow fights through two guys in front of the net but gets a stick on the puck for the 2-1 lead for the Blues.

Wennberg scored his second of the game with eight seconds left in the third period to tie it 2-2.
