by

After picking up a win against Vanderbilt on Monday, Alabama women’s basketball coach Kristy Curry hit a milestone, winner her 500th game as a head coach in women’s college basketball.

Curry arrived at Alabama in 2013, following seven seasons at Purdue and Texas Tech. In her time at Purdue, she led the Boilermakers to seven NCAA tournament appearances, a national championship appearance, and five straight Big Ten championships. In 2021, Curry led the Crimson Tide back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1999, helping Alabama pick up its first round of 32 appearance since that same year.

When Curry arrived at Alabama, the program had back-to-back two-win SEC campaigns in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Now, in her 11th season as the Crimson Tide’s head coach, Curry has made three NCAA Tournament appearances and has not had a losing season since 2018-19.

Under Curry, Alabama had two players drafted into the WNBA for the first time since 2005. Jasmine Walker became the first player drafted from Alabama since 2005 and became the second first round pick in school history after being chosen seventh overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2021. Brittany Davis became the second player to be selected after the Las Vegas Aces chose her in the third round of the 2023 WNBA draft.

Curry helped Alabama get its highest recruiting class in her 11-year tenure in 2023, which ranked 12th nationally. Essence Cody became the highest player to commit to Alabama in 2023, ranking as the 22nd player nationally and as the No. 1 post player in Georgia.

As the final month of regular season and conference play enters, Curry looks to put Alabama in position for her third NCAA Tournament appearance and a potential SEC championship, which would be her first at the school.
