Arkansas State took control with a big second quarter and went on to defeat the University of Akron 81-67 in nonleague women’s basketball Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Arena.
The Red Wolves went on a 20-7 run in the final six minutes of the first half to build a 46-33 lead and the Zips never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Junior Kaia Woods scored a career-high 22 points and junior Alexus Mobley had a career-best 17 rebounds for UA (8-14). Freshman Teniesha Clarke added 10 points and seven rebounds, and seniors Reagan Bass and Alexis Stewart each chipped in eight points.
Junior guard Izzy Higginbottom scored a game-high 25 points for Arkansas State (13-10).
