Three days after taking down one top-10 foe, the Iowa State women’s basketball team had the chance to beat another.
There was no upset this time around as the Cyclones fell to No. 5 Texas, 81-60, at the Moody Center in Austin on Saturday.
Iowa State fell to 14-10 on the season and 8-6 in Big 12 Conference play after hanging around against the Longhorns for parts of Saturday’s showdown.
The Cyclones couldn’t complete what would have been a gigantic week that began with them knocking off sixth-ranked Kansas State on Wednesday.
The Cyclones even led midway through the second quarter, taking a 31-28 advantage on a layup by Audi Crooks. But it was all Texas after that.
The Longhorns answered by going on a 15-2 run to close out the quarter and take a 43-33 lead into halftime. Iowa State kept it close in the third quarter but Texas eventually pulled away, with the Longhorns outscoring the Cyclones 23-10 in the fourth.
Iowa State was without senior Nyamer Diew, who according to an Iowa State spokesperson, was out with an illness.
Crooks, who finished with 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field, passed Colleen Peterson’s program record of 163 made field goals by a freshman. Cyclone senior Emily Ryan became just the third player in school history to reach 700 career assists.
