Phoebe Bacon, Mack McConagha, Hailey Tierney, Dominik Mark Torok Lead Wisconsin to Sweep at Northwestern
The Wisconsin Badgers were dominant in a pair of dual meets against Big Ten rival Northwestern Saturday, with Phoebe Bacon, Mack McConagha and Hailey Tierney each winning two individual events apiece for the women in a 193-106 victory while Dominik Mark Torok secured double triumphs on the way to a 160-139 win.
Bacon took the top spot in the 100 backstroke (51.69) and 100 butterfly (52.17) while McConagha touched first in the 200 fly (1:55.60) and 200 back (1:53.88). Tierney was the dominant sprint freestyler, earning wins in the 50 (22.27) and 100 (48.69). McConagha, Hazal Ozkan, Bacon and Abby Wanezek placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:37.25) while Wanezek, Bacon, Abby Carlson and Blair Stoneburg secured the win in the 400 free relay (3:15.61).
Additionally for Wisconsin, Maddie Waggoner finished first in the 1000 free (9:38.92), and Ozkan pulled away to win the 200 breaststroke (2:11.83). Stoneburg finished well clear of the field in the 500 free (4:42.64) and Cal Dunn won the 200 IM (1:59.36). (Results)
Northwestern scored wins from Ayla Spitz in the 200 free (1:44.75) and Margaret Papanicholas in the 100 breast (1:01.04), as well as diving wins from Markie Hopkins on 1-meter (305.30) and 3-meter (297.80).
On the men’s side, Torok dominated the 200 fly (1:43.77) and 200 IM (1:45.86) while Luukas Vainio won the 200 free (1:35.12) and Taiko Torepe-Ormsby got to the wall first in the 50 free (19.67). Nico Butera won the 100 free, with Yigit Aslan following with a 500 free top finish (4:19.70) and Daniel Muller winning 1-meter diving (334.25).
The win in the 200 medley relay went to the team of Torepe-Ormsby, Matthew Segal, Andrew Benson and Ben Wiegand (1:27.08), while Torepe-Ormsby, Butera, Benson and Vainio ened the meet with a first-place result in the 400 free relay (2:54.46). (Results)
For Northwestern, Andrew Martin won the 1000 free (8:53.07), and David Gerchik scored first place in the 100 back (47.32) and 200 back (1:43.29). Connor Morikawa earned wins in the 100 breast (53.97) and 200 breast (1:55.79) while Aaron Baltaytis was the winner in the 100 fly (47.67) and Northwestern’s Adam Cohen won 3-meter diving (380.95).
