India Sending 12 Swimmers to 2026 Asian Games
India is sending a 12-swimmer delegation to the Asian Games in September, including Olympians Srihari Nataraj and Sajan Prakash.
All 12 swimmers are on the men’s side. India did not bring female swimmers to the Commonwealth Games earlier this summer, either.
Nataraj, 25, holds national records in the 100 and 200 free and the 50 and 100 back. He swam the 100 back at the Paris Olympics in 2024 and in Tokyo in 2021. He was joined by Prakash, the national record holder in the 200 fly, in Tokyo. Prakash will turn 33 in September ahead of the meet.
The roster includes Rohit Benedicton, who took the 100 fly record from Prakash at the Indian Championships in 2025 and set the 50 fly mark this year. Former University of Florida swimmer Aryan Nehra, the national record holder from 400 to 1,500 meters of freestyle, will also swim, as will young talent Vedaant Madhavan. The 21-year-old has swum collegiately at Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
India will field three full relays at the meet. Prakash (200 fly) and Nehra (800 free and 1,500 free) are coming off the Commonwealth Games at which each made finals.
The Asian Games will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Swimming will be at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from Sept. 20-25. An Indian swimmer last medaled at the meet in 2014, via Sandeep Sejwal’s bronze in the 50 breaststroke.
