Indiana Returning to Collegiate Water Polo Association
Indiana University and the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) have announced that IU will return to the conference for the 2028 season. Indiana’s women’s water polo program has been competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), finishing in sixth place last season. The Hoosiers compiled a record of 16-11.
Before leaving for the MPSF in July 2016, Indiana claimed three CWPA championships (2003, 2011, 2014) and finished as the league runnerup on four occasions (2005, 2010, 2015, 2016). Their stint in the MPSF included regular matchups with national powerhouses UCLA, Cal-Berkeley, Southern California and Stanford.
“The Collegiate Water Polo Association welcomes Indiana back to the league starting in 2028,” said CWPA Commissioner Dan Sharadin in a press release. “The addition of Indiana broadens the depth of the league’s competitive stature in an evolving intercollegiate athletic environment.”
When Indiana returns to the CWPA, it will join current members Brown, Bucknell, Harvard, Mercyhurts, Princeton and Michigan. The Hoosiers will compete in the MPSF through the 2027 season.
The departure of Indiana will leave the MPSF with six programs. In addition to UCLA, Cal, USC and Stanford, the conference includes Arizona State and San Jose State.
