COLUMBIA — After taking down Texas in a top 10 battle on Sunday, South Carolina women’s basketball is still projected to host in the first round of the 2025 NCAA tournament.
The Gamecocks (16-1, 4-0 SEC) are 5-of-6 against ranked opponents this season, losing one ranked game to UCLA on Nov. 24. In addition to taking down the Longhorns, they’ve defeated NC State, Duke, TCU and Iowa State.
South Carolina faces Alabama on Thursday (7 p.m., SEC Network+) and Oklahoma on Sunday (3 p.m., ESPN).
Here’s where South Carolina stands in the latest NCAA Tournament projections.
South Carolina projected as No. 1 seed
ESPN’s Charlie Creme’s latest projections have the Gamecocks as a No. 1 seed, hosting in Columbia. Creme has Indiana (No. 8), Florida State (No. 9) and the winner of a First Four game between Jackson State and North Carolina A&T (No. 16) in their bracket.
South Carolina would play Jackson State or North Carolina A&T, and the winner would face the winner of Indiana vs. Florida State.

The Gamecocks are at the top of the NCAA NET rankings. South Carolina’s one loss is a Quad 1 loss.
The Gamecocks are 3-1 on the road, 5-0 on a neutral court, 8-0 at home, 6-1 in Quad 1 games, 3-0 in Quad 2 games, 2-0 in Quad 3 games and 5-0 in Quad 4 games.
To close January, the Gamecocks play No. 4 LSU on Jan. 23 then finish at No. 15 Tennessee on Jan. 27.
LSU is No. 9 in the NET, Oklahoma is No. 12, Tennessee is No. 16 and Alabama is No. 18.
South Carolina women’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament history
South Carolina has won three national championships since 2017, most recently in April after going 38-0 in the 2023-24 season.
The Gamecocks have six Final Four appearances, seven Elite Eights, and have played in 14 Sweet 16 games. South Carolina has won the SEC tournament title eight times and is an eight-time SEC regular season champion.
