Elias Pettersson scored twice in the second period, and Kiefer Sherwood also scored for the Canucks. Sherwood also became the first player in the NHL to reach the 200-hit mark. Thatcher Demko improved to 12-0 against the Sharks in his career as he made 28 saves.

William Eklund and Cody Ceci scored for the Sharks, who lost their fifth straight game. Eklund left the game after the first period and didn’t return. Luke Kunin also scored for San Jose, and Yaroslav Askarov made consecutive starts in the NHL for the first time in his career, making 21 saves.

The Sharks’ second period was their downfall as their puck play failed them again. They struggled to get out of their zone, and when they did, they would often turn it over at the offensive blue line, leading to a counterattack.

After drawing the penalty to give the Sharks a two-man advantage, Eklund fired home a perfect one-timer over the blocker of Demko. Celebrini earned a secondary assist on the goal.

Brock Boeser tied the game 1-1 after the Sharks were caught on a change, allowing him to get to the net and keep his stick free.

Sherwood beats Askarov over his blocker to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead.

Pettersson capitalizes on a bad rebound given up by Askarov to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead in the second. The Sharks challenged the goal, but the play stood.

Pettersson scored his second of the game with a beautiful wrist shot over Askarov’s glove.

Ceci powers a slap-shot through Demko’s five-hole to make it 4-2.

Kunin put in a rebound with 4.3 seconds left in the third period to cut it to a 4-3 game.
