The Ice Mermaid: World Record Antarctic Swim – Bárbara Hernández Huerta | dryrobe®
The original outdoor changing robe.
Created by British surfer, Gideon Bright, the original ‘dryrobe’ was based on an idea his mom had when he was a teenager. After working on several designs and experimenting with different materials, Gideon developed the world’s first outdoor changing robe.
Whilst the concept of the dryrobe® Advance hasn’t changed since its inception over a decade ago, the quality of materials and the design have continuously evolved, with performance and durability always at its core.
Proven performance
The dryrobe® Advance’s uniqueness comes from its super-warm lining, made with 100% recycled polyester. This fast-drying fleece wicks water away from skin, ensuring it can be used numerous times throughout the day without the hassle of drying between uses. The sleek waterproof and windproof outer shell fabric is sustainably created with a durable 100% recycled nylon.
To put the dryrobe® Advance to the test, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) Institute of Sport, a global leader in the academic study of sports science, undertook an independent research study to investigate the effects of wearing a dryrobe® Advance after cold water immersion.
Their results show that wearing a dryrobe® Advance after getting out of cold water can have significant benefits, including helping to lower heart rate and increase skin temperature, as well as improving thermal comfort and thermal sensation levels, demonstrating that participants felt warmer and more comfortable when wearing the dryrobe® compared to other products.
Trusted by elite athletes
Initially designed for surfing, the performance benefits of dryrobe® were soon adopted by other elite sports. Open water swimmers, triathletes, and endurance athletes started to use dryrobe® change robes to keep their core temperature up before and after events; giving them a competitive edge.
Team GB specifically requested dryrobe® change robes for the swimming events at Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024, to aid athlete performance and recovery at the Olympic and Paralympic games.
