Vegas Golden Knights prospect, Abram Wiebe, was named NCHC defenseman of the week.
The 21-year-old plays for the University of North Dakota and was drafted by the Golden Knights in the seventh round (209th overall) in the 2022 NHL draft. Through 17 games in the NCAA, Wiebe has scored three goals and 12 points in 17 games. He’s eclipsed his freshman totals of one goal and 10 points.
This was the first time Wiebe was named NCHC defenseman of the week and was awarded it due to his four-point outburst in the Fighting Hawks’ sweep over Miami of Ohio. The Mission, BC native scored a goal and three assists in the two games and helped kick start a comeback in the first of the two meetings.
Listed at 6’2, 187 lbs, Wiebe has great size and strength for a defenseman and is improving his all-around game with each season he plays in college.
North Dakota is currently the 16th-ranked team in the country and are looking to continue to pile the wins as they push for a spot in the college playoffs.
