Texas football’s 2025 recruiting class is headlined by Jonah Williams, a safety out of Galveston Ball High School. The eighth-ranked prospect in the nation according to 247Sports Composite, he’s set to make an immediate impact on the Longhorns’ defense once the next football season rolls around.
Before that though, he’ll join Texas baseball and coach Jim Schlossnagle for the 2025 spring season. The last Longhorn who played baseball and football at Texas was Shea Morenz from 1992-1995.

“I’m a huge fan of multisport athletes… I love coaching football players,” Schlossnagle said Wednesday on Longhorn Network.
Texas ended the early signing period with its 2025 recruiting class ranked as the No. 1 class in the nation. Though Williams was the gem of Texas football recruiting, there’s no guarantee he will earn playing time with the baseball team as a true freshman.
The top-rated prospect in Texas’ class, Williams is a multi-sport athlete whose primary asset is his immense versatility. Measuring in at 6-foot-3 and 203 pounds, the Galveston Ball recruit is built like a linebacker but has the speed and athleticism of a defensive back. As a baseball player, he played centerfield and pitched on the mound in high school.
Though the football and baseball teams have different seasons, there will inevitably be offseason schedule conflicts for Williams as he attempts to compete in both sports.
