LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights reached an unlikely milestone Saturday night. Unfortunately, it’s not the type of benchmark they’ll want to brag about.
When Michael Carcone beat Ilya Samsonov to make it 5-0 Utah just 1:02 into the second period, it marked the first time in franchise history that Vegas trailed by five without scoring at home.
It was just the third time in franchise history the Golden Knights trailed by five or more goals.
Last season in April, against this same franchise before it moved to Salt Lake City, the Knights trailed 6-0 and lost 7-4 while visiting the then-Arizona Coyotes. On Nov. 19, 2018, the Knights fell behind 5-0 and lost 7-2 in Calgary.
After scoring three goals in the first 10 1/2 minutes Saturday night, Utah led 4-0 after the first period. It marked the 15th time the Knights trailed by four without scoring in franchise history and the seventh time at home.
Vegas has never come back to win a game it trailed 4-0.
The Knights were a shell of the team that took the ice one night earlier and skated toe-to-toe with league-leading Winnipeg and came away with a 4-3 win.
Utah took a 6-0 lead into the second intermission.
