After a turbulent weekend of college football around the country, fans will get an updated glimpse at what should be a new-look 12-team playoff field. Two top-10 teams took a loss last weekend, a potential playoff contender took a hit, and Penn State managed to escape an upset bid on the road. Ohio State also made a statement against Indiana, but the Hoosiers may have been given a soft landing thanks to the losses alluded to previously.
The Big 12 race also became a bit more complicated while jeopardizing the conference’s outlook to have its conference champion get a first-round bye. And it was a good weekend to be Boise State, and perhaps SMU.

Penn State football CFP rankings projection
Penn State should be able to maintain its No. 4 ranking in this week’s playoff rankings. Oregon, Ohio State, and Texas should stay in the top three spots, respectively, following the results of this past weekend. Oregon was idle but is the only undefeated FBS team left standing now.
The biggest question will be if Penn State can stay ahead of Notre Dame, which dismantled Army this past weekend while Penn State was surviving a one-point game at Minnesota.
