Texas A&M’s (8-3, 5-2 SEC) postseason dream seemed far gone after the Aggies’ disappointing quadruple overtime loss to the Auburn Tigers (5-6, 2-5 SEC) on Saturday night.
Still, due to Alabama’s shocking defeat at the hands of Oklahoma, the winner of Texas A&M’s season finale vs. Texas will face Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Knowing what’s on the line, the Aggies must shake off the loss and focus all their energy on the 10-1 Longhorns, who possess one of the best offenses in the country.
After trailing 21-0 in the first half vs. Auburn, Texas A&M’s secondary deserved most of the blame for communication issues in the backfield. At the same time, losing starting cornerbacks Will Lee III and Jaydon Hill to in-game injuries placed a hole in the lineup, likely leading to the unit’s poor performance down the stretch.
Both players were on the field for just 25 snaps, but according to head coach Mike Elko, Lee and Hill are expected to be back in the lineup sooner rather than later, as they’ll be needed against Texas’ deep and fast wide receiver rotation.
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said Will Lee III and Jaydon Hill are both injured and left the game within the first eight plays. Said he does not think they will be long-term absences.
