The Ottawa Senators have recalled defenseman Nikolas Matinpalo from the Belleville Senators, it was announced Tuesday.
A native of Espoo, Finland, Matinpalo has appeared in 17 games for Belleville this season, collecting two goals and four assists for six points. Having made the trek to North America prior to last season, Matinpalo has four career NHL games under his belt but has not registered a point.
Joining the team as a free agent in May of 2023, Matinpalo put up 14 points in 67 AHL regular season games in 2023-24 along with his four game NHL stint.
With Matinpalo being called up, this is his second recall with Ottawa in December. Although he did not appear in a game his first time up, he could potentially get into one this time around with the Senators dealing with injuries on the backend.
