Former Penguins Forward Placed On Waivers By Toronto

by

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for a former Pittsburgh Penguins forward.

After signing him to a one-year NHL contract on Nov. 22, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed Alex Nylander on waivers Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to signing his NHL contract, Nylander – the younger brother of the Leafs’ William Nylander – had eight goals and 12 points in 14 games with Toronto’s AHL affiliate, the Marlies, this season. He was initially signed to give the team some forward depth after the Leafs were marred with forward injuries, most of which are now healthy – which is, likely, the central reason that prompted the move to waive him.

The 26-year-old played in only five games with Toronto and failed to register a point.
